6 June 2013: Latvia approved to enter Eurozone in 2014

6jun2013

Latvia is going to be the 18th member of the eurozone after the European Commission gave it the green light on 5 June 2013. Latvia, although being one of the poorest nations in the EU, “has achieved a high degree of sustainable economic convergence with the euro area.” as the report said.

Olli Rehn, Commission Vice-President responsible for Economic and Monetary Affairs and the Euro pointed out that “Latvia’s desire to adopt the euro is a sign of confidence in our common currency and further evidence that those who predicted the disintegration of the euro area were wrong.”
